Brian Smith, director of the Northern Lakes Skating Association, attended Tuesday's Warsaw parks board meeting requesting use of Richardson-DuBois Park on Market Street. The association floods the baseball diamond there in the winter for recreational skating and hockey.

Board members Toby Sumpter, Cathy Folk and Bob Richmond approved Smith's request. This will be the ninth year for the winter activity.

In another matter, Smith recommended some of the lights at the park be moved to the west end for a lighted soccer field, but no decision was made in that regard.

Parks director Jon Garber gave an update on re-carpeting in the Senior Activities Center in the Pete Thorn Youth Center. He said the Warsaw Lion's Club will donate $800 for the project. Garber said the park board has a Kosciusko County Foundation grant for $3,000 pending. Total cost for the carpeting and installation is $6,800.

Garber said he expects installation to be complete yet this month. He said he will seek quotes for the Pike Lake Campground water extension project and hopes the job will be finished yet this year.

More than 2,600 feet of water line will be installed from Cook Street to the Volunteer Firemen's Building for access into the campgrounds.

As of Nov. 5 Andy McCleary resigned the activities director position to assume the City County Athletic Complex director's job. Garber said advertisement has brought in a dozen applications and the job opening is appearing in "Leisure Update," a publication of the Indiana Parks and Recreation Department, and on the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns Web site.

McCleary was with the department four years.

In other business the board:

• Heard that all the Christmas decorations should be ready in time for the Dec. 8 Hometown Holidays Celebration.

• Decided not to hold a December meeting.
