Warsaw City Council Monday approved an amended resolution for a tax abatement for Zimmer.
The resolution was for a CF-1 tax abatement for Zimmer, 345 Main St., 1777 and 1800 W. Center St. The original tax abatement was submitted in 2004.Zimmer requested to resubmit the form for personal property in order to receive tax abatement on $124 million in personal property instead of the originally estimated $37 million provided in 2004. There were no limits in personal property placed on the statement of benefits in 2004.
The council also approved a resolution for cuts to the 2009 budget.
Warsaw Mayor Ernie Wiggins said there may be additional cuts expected in the future.
The general fund budget will be reduced by $449,500.
The police department will see a $135,000 reduction in its 2009 budget with a $46,000 reduction in police salaries, the largest reduction for the police department.
The fire department's 2009 budget will be reduced by $79,000; the street department's budget will be reduced by $152,500; the aviation department's budget will be reduced by $4,000; the parks and recreation budget will be reduced by $82,000; and Oakwood Cemetery budget will be reduced by $15,000.
Other reductions include a $2,000 reduction in the mayor's office budget; a $3,000 reduction in the clerk's office budget; and a $6,000 reduction in the human resources budget.
The building and planning department will see a $72,000 reduction in its budget.
The council approved developing an economic development commission consisting of county councilman Bob Sanders, city council representative and Warsaw Plan Commission president Tom Allen and the mayor's nomination, Dan Robinson.
The council also approved a human resources ordinance to transfer $3,000 from other services and charges to professional services. The city also approved a $2,000 transfer from other services and charges to printing and advertising.
