Warsaw City Council Monday acknowledged voluntary annexation petitions for two properties owned by Warsaw Municipal Airport.
The petitioner for the annexations is the Board of Aviation Commissioners.
One property is east of the airport at CR 100E. The other property is north of the airport at CR 300N.
The properties are subject to the jurisdiction of the Kosciusko County Area Plan Commission, and presently are zoned for agriculture uses. The petitioner will request the properties be zoned industrial.
A public hearing still needs to occur for the annexations, and a fiscal plan needs to be approved by the council, according to Jeremy Skinner, city planner.
The public hearing will be in May during a city council meeting.
In other business, the council approved two annexation ordinances for property on the northeast side of CR 200W and U.S. 30, and the Cardinal Services property at the northwest corner of U.S. 30 and CR 200W.
The council approved an ordinance for $3,000 to be transferred in the Warsaw Police Department budget from repair and maintenance supplies into professional services.
Warsaw Mayor Joe Thallemer presented the council with a list of asphalt projects.
The city will begin milling asphalt today on the following streets: Lydia Drive, Short Ridge Drive from Ind. 15 to the corner, Henderson Street from Ranch Road to Baker Street, Shaffer Road from Hersher Road to Ranch Road, Timon Drive from Windsor Road to Meadow Lane, Smith Street from Columbia Street to Washington Street, Columbia Street from Prairie Street to Smith Street, West Main Street from Columbia Street to Union Street, West Street from Fort Wayne Street to Porter Street, Country Club Road from Country Club Drive South to the city limits and Main Street from the railroad tracks to Detroit Street.
Thallemer informed the council he will receive a final draft on the city’s strategic plan and will present it to the council. Plans are for the city to adopt the final draft at its next council meeting.
Mike Brubaker, Warsaw fire chief, informed the council the department is partnering with American Bikers Aimed Toward Education May 19 for an event to raise funds for the Hoosier Burn Camp.
The event will be at the Eagles Lodge in Boggs Industrial Park.
He also said on June 8 and 9 the department will host a technical rescue drill at the G& G Hauling pit from 8 a.m. to noon.
