INDIANAPOLIS – Syracuse Town Marshal Tony Ciriello received the 2012 William Sudbury Memorial Leadership Award. The award was presented by the Indiana Association of Chiefs of Police at the annual IACP Mid-Winter Conference Jan. 23 in Indianapolis. The William Sudbury Memorial Leadership Award is presented annually to a graduate of the Police Executive Leadership Academy who most consistently exemplifies the highest standards of leadership. The criteria for the recipient of this award is an individual who demonstrates an awareness of the need for continuous learning and exhibits commitment and courage to change things necessary to enhance leadership and organizational effectiveness: Anyone who gets to know Ciriello quickly realizes that when he commits to doing something or taking on a task, he’s all in, according to a release submitted from the IACP. Other criteria is modeling true leadership, and supporting those in their profession who do likewise. Ciriello demonstrates competence in this area by never hesitating to rise to the challenge of what needs to be done, according to the release. “He can seem to wear so many hats, and fill so many shoes at the same time, that all we can do is marvel at how incredibly effective he is at everything he takes on,” the release states. He doesn’t hesitate to step up whenever there is a need to demonstrate or facilitate true professionalism in law enforcement, it states. He promotes personal and organizational accountability toward achieving a clear organizational mission and vision, the release indicates.
