Chamber President Asks For Input On Behalf Of Louis Dreyfus

Posted
Warsaw/Kosciusko County Chamber of Commerce President Mark Dobson is encouraging comments and letters on behalf of Louis Dreyfus.

According to recent changes in federal agriculture policy, companies must be at least 51 percent U.S. owned to receive subsidies.

Since Louis Dreyfus is an international company, the Claypool plant is currently being shut out of millions of dollars in subsidies.A comment period concerning the rule has been extended.

In a release from the chamber, Dobson writes, "The United States Department of Agriculture has issued rules that have a negative impact on the Louis Dreyfus Biofuels plant in Claypool.

"... This rule targets specifically the operations of Louis Dreyfus and two other smaller producers in other states. We believe this action has far-reaching negative impacts on our community. Dreyfus has invested substantially in our community and has created nearly 100 new jobs. In addition to the Dreyfus investment in our community, many of our community's farmers, trucking operations, and other related industries would be negatively impacted should the Biofuels operation substantially reduce production."

Letters to the USDA can be addressed to the Branch Chief Regulations & Paperwork Management Branch, U.S. Department of Agriculture STOP 0742, 1400 Independence Ave., SW, Washington, DC 20250-0742
