Undercover surveillance inside Central Park by the Kosciusko County Drug Task Force resulted in the arrests of two Warsaw men Tuesday, both on charges of dealing cocaine.
A third man currently incarcerated in the Kosciusko County Jail on a July 3 cocaine charge faces an additional charge related to Tuesday's arrest.
Sandro Piedra Medina, 28, of 329 Eisenhower Parkway, Warsaw; Oscar Vega, 18, of 811 E. Clark St., Warsaw; and Jose Jesus Rameriz, 19, of 6192 CR 200N, Lot 62, Warsaw, are currently being held on these charges at the Kosciusko County Jail.
According to police, "the three men allegedly sold more than 3 grams of cocaine to undercover police officers" at Central Park prior to July 3. The value of the controlled substance sold to the officers was $125-$175.
The task force was investigating the three suspects over the past few months at various Warsaw parks, police said. Additional arrests are expected.
Medina was arrested March 25 after allegedly being involved in a drive-by shooting at Center Lake Park. Two juvenile females were injured in the shooting.
Medina was detained by police the night of the incident, and officers discovered "a large amount of cocaine" hidden inside the suspect's vehicle. Medina was arrested the next morning.
He was out on bond at the time of Tuesday's arrest. The recent charges are not believed to be linked to the drive-by shooting, police said.
Police said the investigation is part of an ongoing effort to keep the parks free of drugs and illegal activity. Both the drug task force and the Warsaw Police Department have been heavily patrolling Central Park since June.
