Oakwood Cemetery Board of Regents Thursday approved allowing an opening at the west side of the cemetery for pedestrians and bicyclists to enter.
Hal Heagy, cemetery sexton, said the alternative access will be created next spring.
Christmas lights in the downtown were installed yesterday that will be lit until First Friday Fire and Ice in February.
Heagy informed the board 80 loads of leaves have been collected this year at the cemetery.
The board heard the cemetery is considering acquiring 10.79 acres of land east of the cemetery for additional burial space.
The board approved Heagy being in charge of determining the allowable size of vertical bronze monuments for military personnel in the cemetery.
The board heard there were 16 burials in November and seven lots sold, and signed six burial deeds during the meeting.
