A grant from K21 Foundation helped Combined Community Services purchase healthy foods for its clients.

CCS received a $15,000 grant from K21 Health Foundation. CCS can now offer items such as ground turkey, turkey hot dogs, sliced turkey, rice, eggs and low-sodium canned vegetables.

“The grant allows us to purchase healthy items such as ground turkey for our pantry,” said Steve Possell, CCS executive director.

“We lost some federal money for food this past year, and this was a great opportunity to align with K21 Foundation’s vision of identifying health needs in our community.”

Possell said the grant money will provide healthier foods for the residents of Kosciusko County.

Holly Swoverland, K21 grant coordinator, said the organization is excited to partner with CCS in offering a healthier selection to food pantry clients in the community.

“We hope that this grant will help these individuals and families to begin to eat healthier meals that will make a positive impact on their health in the long run,” Swoverland said.
