CCS' 'Christmas In July' Aims To Help Kids Succeed In School

Without the proper school supplies, students can't be expected to succeed in the classroom.

Combined Community Services is kicking off their "Christmas in July" to help Kosciusko County students get a good start this upcoming school year.

School supplies for CCS to help needy children in the county can be dropped off at Kmart, Staples, WRSW/Cow Country and both CCS offices (110 E. Prairie St., Warsaw, and 612 S. Huntington St., Syracuse).

Items needed include book bags, pens, pencils, notebooks, notebook paper, crayons, colored pencils, glue, folders with pockets, scissors, erasers, markers, compasses, protractors, tissues, reclosable plastic bags and kids' shoes.

The supplies will be handed out at both CCS locations beginning Aug. 14 and will continue until all supplies have been given to those who need them. Last year, more than 560 households received school supplies through this program. All remaining supplies were divided up and given to five elementary schools.

The number of people seeking assistance with food, clothing, housing, utilities and more is up by 196 percent over the same time last year, according to information provided by CCS. For more information, call 269-6019 or 457-5200.
