Cass County Resident Seeks Senate District 18 Seat; Tom Weatherwax To Retire

Cass County resident Brian Thomas is seeking the State Senate District 18 seat in the May 6 Republican primary election.
The seat is currently held by Tom Weatherwax, who is retiring.Thomas, 39, said it is his first time for seeking public office.
"There is no doubt the main issue is the broken property taxation system," Thomas said during a telephone interview this morning.
He said District 18 taxpayers need someone in the Senate that understands the property tax system.
"For more than 15 years I have been directly involved in property taxation in Indiana," Thomas said.
"I have direct knowledge and training in the administration of the property taxation in surrounding states."
Thomas is co-owner of Ad Valorem Solutions, a consulting and service company that contracts with assessors throughout Indiana.
He is president of the Galveston Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization, and is a member of the Woodbridge Health Campus advisory board and International Association of Assessing Officers.
He is an instructor for assessor/appraiser continuing education classes in Indiana and an instructor for the Illinois Property Assessment Institute.
Thomas has been married 16 years to his wife Rhonda. They have three children: Macie, 13; Levi, 10; and Jayla, 3.
