Carter, Freel Seek Leesburg Clerk-Treasurer's Job

Posted
LEESBURG - Two people have tossed their hats in the ring to become the Leesburg clerk-treasurer.

On Thursday at 7 p.m., there will be a caucus at the Leesburg Town Hall to fill the clerk-treasurer position left vacant when Melissa Robinson resigned in April.

Jan K. Carter, of 123 W. Van Buren St., Leesburg, and Barbara L. Freel, of 306 W Prairie St., Leesburg, have filed declaration of candidacy forms showing their interest in holding the position.

The deadline for filing the declaration of candidacy was at 7 p.m. Monday.

Carter and Freel will address the caucus Thursday, and then Leesburg Precinct Committeeman Harold Jones will name the town's new clerk-treasurer.

Carter currently is serving as the temporary clerk-treasurer. She was named to the position by Council President Rick Stookey at a special meeting April 19.

Stookey referenced Indiana Code regarding naming a temporary replacement for the clerk-treasurer position vacated by Melissa Robinson's resignation April 12.
