Zak G. Hoffer, 11, of East Northwinds Drive, suffered a severe head injury and was airlifted from Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw, to Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, after the 6:28 p.m. accident.
According to a press release from the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, Hoffer was riding his BMX-style bicycle in a field on the east side of CR 100E, where he and other children were reportedly jumping a ramp.
Hoffer apparently jumped his bicycle over the ramp and entered the roadway near the intersection of CR 100E and Deer Run in front of a vehicle driven by Gary Castle of Leesburg. Castle was not injured.
Assisting police at the scene were personnel from Plain Township and Multi-Township emergency medical services.
