Students react as K-9 officer Mako “attacks” Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Shane Bucher in a bite suit. (See Mako in action by clicking on the second dot below the photo.) Mako’s handler, Warsaw Police Department officer Trent Shively stands by. KCSO had its first day of Camp HERO at the Blue Barn Berry Farm near Dewart Lake Tuesday with 107 kids signed up for the three-day event. KCSO deputies and Warsaw Police Department officers and their K-9 partners demonstrated how the dogs do their work. Said 11-year-old Bailey Dawson from Leesburg, rubbing his forehead in worry and awe: “I thought it was pretty cool. I want to be cop. It never gets old.” The camp is 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and ends with a graduation at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
