BZA Approves Car Wash At Parker St. BP

Posted

Warsaw's Board of Zoning Appeals Monday unanimously approved a variance request by Gael Munson and Lassus Brothers Oil Co. to build an automated car wash at the BP Service Station on the corner of Parker Street and DuBois Drive.

"What we're proposing is a car wash that would be an addition to our existing business, not a new venture," said John Lassus.

Interim city planner Jeff Noffsinger said the proposed car wash facility would be similar to the one at the corner of Detroit and Center streets and would meet all other zoning requirements, but needed a variance because the service station was a C-2, commercial zone use located in a C-3, commercial lot.

There were two remonstrators to the request, but their concerns were addressed satisfactorily by the property owner and they lodged no objections.

In other business, the board:

• Approved variance requests by Bruce Johnson for a literature distribution business from his home at 518 N. Lincoln St., and by Heather Brown for a hair salon business in her home at 617 S. Union St.;

• Approved a special exception request by Will Bentley and New Hope Free Will Baptist Church for an expansion of the church building;

• Approved a front yard setback variance request by George Clemens for his home at 1010 E. Center St.;

• Denied a freestanding sign variance request by Bob Vernatter of Midas Muffler, 3555 Commerce Drive.
