BURKET - Jim Marshall was officially hired Tuesday by the Burket Town Council to fill the street maintenance position.
On the job since June, Marshall replaces John Huff, who died earlier this year. Huff was also Burket's town marshal, but Marshall will not be picking up those duties. The town has asked the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Office for assistance in patrolling the area.
In other matters, the council announced that Main Street will be closed from CR 700W to Market Street on Oct. 19 during the Burket United Methodist Church bazaar.
Motorists are asked to use safe speed when passing through town. Cars tend to drive too fast through the residential areas, officials said.
Problems with loose dogs and cats and confined dogs that continually bark will be addressed.
The next meeting is at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 8 in the home of Tona Huff.
