BURKET – Burket Town Council approved purchasing equipment to record their meetings Thursday.
Council President Bill Rayburn said hopefully once they discuss the issue and vote on it, they can get everything set up for their meeting on Aug. 14.
Street Superintendent Brad Bibler talked to Kosciusko County Systems Administrator Eric Sorensen and Bibler said he volunteered to come to the meeting to make sure the council can get everything going.
Rayburn said the town is going to have to purchase a webcam and microphone. The council took a look at what Mentone recently bought.
Rayburn said Mentone and Silver Lake post their meetings to YouTube. He said his initial thought was to build a website and post Burket’s meetings there, but creating a website will take time. Rayburn said they may take a look at having a website later on, but they have to deal with recording their meetings first.
Rayburn said he thinks the council will have to pay YouTube to post their meetings. Clerk-Treasurer Katina Webb said she doesn’t think that’s the case and almost has the account completely set up.
Bibler brought up there is OBS Studios, which is software that is free to download the council could use to help recording the meetings.
Councilwoman Lena Ball asked if the council could use the town laptop Webb uses and brings to meetings. Rayburn said that computer is five to 10 years old and slow. Rayburn said his thought was to get a laptop that had Windows 11 or better and the necessary software. He believes the laptops are reasonably priced.
Rayburn said he doesn’t know the exact cost of the equipment but believed there were enough funds in the budget to cover the cost.
Rayburn made the motion to purchase the equipment and Ball seconded it. The council voted 3-0.
