Builders Association Provides $11,400 In Coats For Kids
Posted
Staff Report-
Each year, the Builders Association of Kosciusko-Fulton Counties purchases brand new coats, hats and gloves for children attending elementary schools in Kosciusko and Fulton counties.
This project began in 1996 with the purchase of 52 coats and a total dollar amount of $687. This year, 437 were purchased at a total cost of $11,400.
To date, the association has purchased a total of 3,450 coats and spent more than $84,000 in an effort to keep the children of Kosciusko and Fulton counties warm in the winter. Funding for this project is the result of the annual "Coats for Kids" Golf Outing. Association members sponsor this event each year.
Support for the program has been continuous through the years. On the day of the event, association members participate and invite guests to join them for a day of fun with a worthwhile purpose. This year, the association purchased half of the coats at Kmart (a long supporter of our project) and the other half at Wal-Mart.
All of the coats are delivered by association members to area schools. The schools determine the coat needs and supply the association with the information. The coats are provided and distributed by the schools to the students.
This year, the Builders Association of Kosciusko-Fulton Counties Women's Council also has volunteered to purchase sweat pants and other needed items to each school. The schools have provided a listing of requested items and the Women's Council members will be shopping and delivering these items soon.
