Andrew Callaway and Brian Drobitsch will fill vacancies as Warsaw Fire Department lieutenants.
Warsaw Board of Public Works and Safety this morning approved the promotions.
Callaway's hire date was Sept. 18, 2005, and he will receive a $1,732.12 bi-weekly wage. He has been in the fire service for 10 years.
Drobitsch's hire date was Dec. 8, 2002, and he will receive a $1,780.01 bi-weekly wage.
Callaway and Drobitsch were selected among five other employees who applied for the lieutenant positions, according to Jennifer Whitaker, Warsaw human resources director.
The two vacant lieutenant positions were posted at the end of January.
During its Jan. 21 meeting, the board approved Mike Brubaker and Aaron Bolinger to be promoted from WFD lieutenants to captains effective Jan. 23, leaving two lieutenant vacancies.
Brubaker and Bolinger replaced Ed Kipker and Kreg Warren, whose voluntary resignations were approved at the board's Jan. 8 meeting.
Callaway's and Drobitsch's duties will go into effect Sunday, Whitaker said.
Also this morning, the board approved Perry Hunter's rank being reduced from detective sergeant to patrol officer.
Hunter's current salary as detective sergeant is $2,038.48 bi-weekly, and will be reduced to $1,915.52 as a patrol officer. That is a 6.42 percent salary reduction.
After resigning his position as chief of police in December 2009, Hunter immediately assumed his previous rank of detective sergeant, which he held prior to his administrative appointment.
At that time, Hunter requested to initially be assigned to the patrol division. Based upon the need in the patrol division, WPD Chief Scott Whitaker granted Hunter's request.
Due to the patrol division now being adequately staffed, Whitaker said he is ready to fill the vacant detective position that was recently vacated after Steve Adang was promoted to lieutenant of the detective division earlier this month.
However, Hunter submitted a letter to Whitaker stating that he would like to remain in the patrol division.
The request has prompted the need to reclassify Hunter to patrol officer and his wage will need to match the 2010 salary ordinance.
The detective position will be posted and filled internally sometime in March, Whitaker said.
