Warsaw Board of Works and Public Safety Friday approved temporarily closing Center Street between Indiana and Buffalo streets for the Fat & Skinny Tire Festival.
Rob Gast, Trailhouse, made the request for the street to be closed for the BMX freestyle show May 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. for the show that starts at 6 p.m. in front of Mad Anthony's.The board also approved Warsaw Street Superintendent Lacy Francis applying for a sign grant through 3M Company.
There have been changes in the 2008 Indiana Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. The lettering on street name signs needs to be six inches in height and currently the lettering is four inches in Warsaw.
Also, the stop sign retroflectivity from its current engineer grade needs to be upgraded to a miscroprismatic background.
The board also:
n Approved hiring Jeffrey Helfers as a replacement groundskeeper at Oakwood Cemetery.
n Approved the city releasing $7,000 in funds for the Argonne Road/Parker Street corridor to pay to US Infrastructure-Indiana.
n Approved Warsaw Fire Department applying for a grant through the K21 Foundation to purchase a fire training tower.
n Approved the DARE division of Warsaw Police Department applying for a $10,036.50 grant for purchasing graduate materials and supplies, graduate t-shirts and student workbooks for its DARE program.
