BOW Approves WPD Applying For Grant, Swears In Patrolman

Warsaw Board of Public Works and Safety approved Warsaw Police Department applying for funds to combat drugs and alcohol during its meeting Friday.
The board approved the department applying for funds from Kosciusko Coalition on Drug Education.
WPD is seeking funding in the following categories: prevention and education, $8,000 for WPD DARE materials, training, and education; and law enforcement, $2,756 for WPD patrol division for portable breath test instruments.
Also during the meeting, Warsaw Mayor Ernie Wiggins swore in Ronald Nethaway, WPD patrol officer.
The board approved Nethaway’s one-year review status, and approved him receiving a $1,660.76 bi-weekly salary.
The board approved Oakwood Cemetery purchasing a Bobcat utility vehicle truck with a snow blade for $16,053 from Bobcat of Warsaw. The vehicle will replace a 1998 S10 pickup truck.
The board approved an addendum to a lease of property at 102 S. Buffalo for Benjamin Butz who is leasing the property from the city.
Butz is wanting to vacate the property and the city approved the rent will continue to be $700 per month until he vacates the premesis during this month or any other subsequent month.
The rent for a partial month will be $23.34 for each day the tenant is in possession of the property.
Butz has until Dec. 31 to vacate the premesis.
The board also approved a request from Jason Hart, Park Ridge Community Association, to close down the southernmost part of Laurelwood Drive which runs east to west and intersects with Highlander Drive.
The temporary closure will be on Oct. 8 from 4 to 9 p.m.
The neighborhood association will sponsor a tail gate style event that will only be open to residents and members of the Park Ridge Community Association.
The board also:
n Approved a revised job description for the WPD mechanic.
n Approved temporary street closures on Oct. 1 from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the annual Cubmobile race. Indiana and portions of Fort Wayne and Main streets will be temporarily closed that day.
n Approved a one-year review salary change for Tyler Thomas, Oakwood Cemetery groundskeeper who will make $14.03 bi-weekly and a six-month review for Rebecca Jenkins, Warsaw Wastewater Treatment Utility facility collections clerk at $15.73 bi-weekly.
n Approved a lease and maintenance agreement for a new copy machine for the clerk’s office.
