John Bonitati, Democratic candidate for the Indiana House, Dist. 22, has received endorsements from the Indiana Federation of Teachers and the Indiana AFL-CIO for the November election, according to a release from Kosciusko County Democrats.

The Indiana AFL-CIO released its candidate endorsements June 25.

Bonitati stated in the recent release that these endorsements reinforce his support and commitment to Indiana teachers and workers. He added that improving workers’ wages, benefits and working conditions is important for education and strong communities.

“Public education, the great American institution that provides for a better life and bonds students and parents to a sense of community, is under attack,” Bonitati said in material provided. “Teachers have been unfairly targeted and vilified as the cause of problems in education for divisive political gain. We need teachers included at the table to provide input to improve our schools.”

He also contrasted his position with that of his opponent for the House seat, Rebecca Kubacki, based on her co-sponsoring of the Right to Work law.

“The recent passage of Right to Work will drive down all worker wages, not just union wages, as confirmed by Department of Labor statistics,” Bonitati said. “Indiana’s per capita income has been falling and is currently 42nd in the nation. Lowering workers’ wages while trying to recover from a severe recession will prolong the recovery effort and is frankly bad economic policy.”
