Board Of Works OKs Purchasing Property For New Fire Station

Posted
Warsaw Board of Works approved a request for the Warsaw Fire Department to purchase property that will allow the department to build a new fire station.
The board approved a purchase agreement request by WFD to purchase two acres of property on CR 200S from Warsaw Community Church.
The purchase cost is $76,000, which is below the average appraisal of $81,750. The property is west of WCC and the department received two appraisals for the property.
Warsaw Mayor Ernie Wiggins made the motion to approve the purchase and board member Joe Thallemer seconded the motion.
Funds have been set aside by the Wayne Township Trustee board when the fire territory was formed in July 2009 to fund the fire department purchasing the property, according to Mike Rice, WFD chief.
The Warsaw-Wayne Township Fire Territory Board and Wayne Township Board of Trustees approved the contract at its meetings this month.
An operational study prepared in October 2009 by R.W. Bassett & Associates outlined needed operational changes and new station locations to provide better response times and improve insurance service organization class ratings within the newly formed fire territory, according to Rice.
There are currently two fire stations, Fire Station One, 109 E. Main St., and Fire Station Two, 2204 E. Center St.
The board also approved WFD applying for a Kosciusko REMC Operation Round Up Grant for Play It Safe Family Safety Day.
In other business the board approved Warsaw Police Department accepting a $8,924 grant from the K21 Health Foundation to purchase four new bicycles for patrolling.
The board also:
n Approved a contract that will allow the wastewater facility to have a booth at the Kosciusko County Community Fair.
n Approved a request from Golden Corral Restaurant, Warsaw, for a credit to their account and late fees be forgiven on their sewage bill.
It was found that there was a water leak on the outside of the restaurant and water was leaking under the building. Since the water was not released into the sewage system, they were asking for a credit to their account and the late fees be forgiven.
