Two agreements were approved by the Warsaw Board of Public Works and Safety at their year-end meeting today.

Both agreements concerned the local fire department.

Under the 2000 Fire Contract for Warsaw and Wayne Township, Wayne Township will pay Warsaw $110,000, an increase of $10,000 from 1999. Half of the amount will be paid before June 30 and the remainder will be paid before Dec. 31, 2000.

The other agreement is the Warsaw volunteer fire 2000 agreement, the purpose being to provide Warsaw and Wayne Township residents fire protection.

Warsaw will pay $17,000 to the Warsaw Volunteer Fire Department, payable in two installments. The first installment of $3,000 is due by Feb. 15 and the remaining balance is due by Dec. 10.

In other business, the board approved David A. Beall, 39, South Union Street, Warsaw, as the manager of Warsaw Airport at an annual salary of $38,850. He will begin his duties Jan. 3.

Wiggins thanked Karen Sheets for her efforts at the airport.

After the meeting, Beall said he grew up around the airport his father operated. He has 150 to 170 hours of flight experience, but they are not current.

"Having talked with (Mayor) Ernie (Wiggins) and my parents, I am pretty confident I know the ins and outs of airports. I'm looking forward to (the job)," Beall said.

Wiggins also extended personal condolences to the family of former Warsaw Police Officer Wally Knox, who died Wednesday.

Board members are Wiggins, Jerry Patterson and Mac Silveus.
