Board Of Works Approves E. Market St. Neighborhood Study

Warsaw Board of Public Works and Safety Friday approved a contract for an East Market Street neighborhood study. The study will be completed along with the city’s comprehensive plan. The contract with Ground Rules is for $19,200. This plan will take concepts and ideas from a Ball State workshop and further analyze them. It also will identify specific housing and development opportunities to benefit the neighborhood, conduct meetings with the neighborhood, and prepare illustrations and graphics and promote redevelopment in the area. In other business, the board approved pay applications to A & Z Engineering for preliminary engineering totaling $14,146 and right of way engineering totaling $2,047.50. The board also approved a $26,802 payment to Harold McComb & Son for third-floor renovations on the new city hall. The third floor will be used for OrthoWorx offices. All of the framing is completed, the electrical conduit is around 95 percent complete, the mechanical duct work is 90 percent, and the drywall is 80 percent complete. The project will be completed in mid to late November. The board approved a $1,000 payment to Scearce Rudisel for completion of the city hall plaza wall project, and a $2,000 payment to Scearce Rudisel for construction observation. Also approved was the Warsaw Airport’s purchase of a new truck with a snowplow from Rice Ford for $25,178 and a $4,850 payment to T Williams Construction to repair the airport’s roof terminal. The board approved bi-weekly six-month review salaries for Warsaw Police Department patrol officers Ryan Coble and Joshua Lawson at $1,580.47; and WPD day-shift patrolman Jaime de la Fuente at $1,727.36. Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory was given the OK to enter into an agreement with Grace College. The agreement will provide Grace students the opportunity to earn applied credits through the fire department. Mike Brubaker, fire chief, informed the board the tornado siren has been moved from the former city hall to Fire Station 1.
