Board of Works Approves Change Orders for New City Hall

Posted
Warsaw Board of Public Works and Safety approved change orders for the new city hall at 102 S. Buffalo St. Friday.

There were change orders totaling $9,200, including adding drywall to the conference room and human resources office, reusing existing walls, windows and doors throughout the building.

The majority of the remaining change order items reflect items found during demolition that the city or architect could not foresee, according to city planner Jeremy Skinner. This includes finding floor-grade differences under the carpet that was removed, roll-down gates that were encased in existing walls and walls that had trim under that drywall.

There also were change orders totaling $12,540 for removing the existing floor tile from the lobby, pouring new concrete and removing existing wood subfloor.

The board also approved paying $60,967.80 to Harold McComb & Son Inc. for change order work on the new city hall.

Warsaw Mayor Joe Thallemer said the contractor has been up front about the change orders.

The board also approved Oakwood Cemetery purchasing the Parsons Farm property from the Parsons Trust south of the cemetery for $53,750. The 3.45 acres of property will be used for additional burial space.

The board approved Warsaw Street Department purchasing a 1997 International truck for $16,900 from Selking International, Fort Wayne, that will be used as a salt truck.

It will replace a 1989 Ford truck. The funds for the purchase are available in street machinery and equipment.

The board also approved a 2012 contract between Warsaw Parks Department and Wayne Township.

With many residents in the township living outside Warsaw city limits making use of the facilities, programs and parks, the contract will help offset cost for usages.

The board also tabled approving a 2012 Lake Association Agreement for Center, Pike and Winona lakes to include language in the agreements for them to be reviewed on an annual basis.

The board also approved Warsaw Parks Department event contracts for Culture Fest, Friday Evening Performing Arts Series and Blues and Barbecue.

The board approved a contract with blues vocalist Janiva Magness, who will serve as the headliner for the Blues and Barbecue concert July 6 at 8 p.m. in Central Park. The opening band is still to be announced.

Magness received the 2009 Blues Music Award for B.B. King Entertainer Of The Year.

She also won Contemporary Blues Female Artist Of The Year, an honor she also received in 2006 and 2007.

She has received 17 Blues Music Award nominations to date, including one for 2012s Contemporary Blues Female Artist Of The Year.

The board approved a contract between Warsaw Fire Department and Sands Office Equipment for an annual service agreement for a copier, printer and fax.

The board approved a contract between Apollo Printing and Graphics Center and Warsaw Parks Department to print the 2012 Parks Recreation Guide.

The board denied approving a sewer tap fee waiver for property at 829 E. Smith St.

The board approved six- month reviews for Derrick Leake, street laborer, at $13.28 hourly, and Brian Zehring, firefighter, at $1,566.60 bi-weekly.

Board member Jeff Grose said he received a concern from a constituent in his district on gravel being in their yard from road crews patching the road on Clark Street.

Street Superintendent Lacy Francis said the gravel was not applied correctly by the patching machine.

Thallemer asked Francis to get in contact with the residents to let them know what is going on.
