Blockbuster Video In Warsaw To Close

Posted
With the rise of Netflix, Redbox and on-demand entertainment, as well as debt issues, Blockbuster Video had previously announced plans to close 182 stores.

That announcement came in December after the company filed for bankruptcy in September.

That will affect Warsaw as the location in the Kmart Shopping Plaza is set to close in April.

According to South Bend District Manager Nikki Renkes, the last day for the Warsaw location is scheduled to be April 25.

Warsaw is part of the South Bend district that includes a store in Elkhart, Goshen, Plymouth and the South Bend location on Ironwood.

According to Renkes, all those stores will close with the exception of Goshen.

Renkes said it is possible that employees from stores that are closing down may move to other stores.

Starting Friday, the Warsaw location will begin a liquidation of not only merchandise but shelving, counters and other items.

The store will have price reductions each Monday starting Feb. 28 until the store closes.

According to an MSNBC story from December, Blockbuster had already closed about 1,000 stores in recent years.

Blockbuster is headquartered out of Dallas, Texas.
