Big Brothers, Big Sisters To Present Charlie Smith Award

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana will present an award in honor of the late Charlie Smith. According to a press release from the organization, the award will be presented during the Second Annual Big Celebration Nov. 11 at Champagne Jam in Warsaw. Beginning at 5:30 p.m., the evening will feature dinner, a silent auction, a grand prize giveaway and speaker Maurice Clarett, former Ohio State University NCAA champion and motivational speaker. In honor of Smith, a lifelong advocate for children in Kosciusko County and a longtime benefactor of the organization, the award recognizes individuals who go above and beyond the call of excellence and exhibit an exceptional commitment to enriching the lives of others and improving the community. Smith’s wife, Ann, and his surviving family will receive the award on his behalf. Smith died Oct. 2 in an airplane crash with three other men, including his son Scott Smith, Scott Bibler and Tony Elliott.
