FORT WAYNE – The Allen County Coroner's Office released information Tuesday that the bicyclist involved in the Sunday evening crash near Mentone has died. Allen County officials stated that Dung Nguyen, 45, Astoria, N.Y., died Monday of injuries that he sustained after being struck by an automobile late Sunday evening, along Ind. 19 in southeastern Kosciusko County. The coroner explained that Nguyen died from blunt force trauma from the crash, which occurred at approximately 10:03 p.m. Nguyen’s exact destination or travel history prior to the fatality is currently unknown. The Allen County Coroner's Office advised that notification to family members has been completed and explained that this was the reasoning for delaying the official notification of his death, with the cooperation of the Kosciusko County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team and Sheriff's Department. FACT members stated that a preliminary investigation into the crash determined that Nguyen was riding his bicycle northbound on Ind. 19 near the intersection of CR 600S. A white 2001 Mercury, driven by Michael D. Julian, 51, Akron, Ohio, also was headed northbound on Ind. 19, approaching Nguyen from behind. Julian stated that he did not see the bicyclist until the very last minute, prior to impact with Nguyen.
