Beyond The Puppet Wins WCHS Battle Of The BandsBeyond The Puppet won the Warsaw Community High School Battle of the Bands Thursday night.
"I'm ecstatic," said vocalist Derek Baker.
"I'm deeply surprised," said bassist Devin Knisely. "Very thankful. Last year we didn't place, this year we came out of nowhere."
For winning first place, the four-member band received $500. Along with Baker and Knisely, the other band members are guitarist Hugh Freeman and Curtis George on drums.
After performing a cover of "What Is Love?", Beyond The Puppet performed their original songs "Inversion," "Winter Looms," "Shadow of Misjudgment" and "The Barricade."
The hard rock band has been a group since fall 2006, Baker said. He said they will use the money "wisely" on band equipment.
"We'll use it on what is most necessary," Baker said.
George also won the best instrumental soloist award. The award came with $50.
Second place and $200 went to Ojive. Winners of the Battle of the Bands was based on audience vote. The soloist award was judged by Jesse Adams, WRSW 107.3 FM.
