Beyer Trail Officially Opened With Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

City officials, donors, sponsors and supporters of the Lake City Greenway held an opening ceremony Saturday to the Beyer Farm link of the project.

Calling the two-thirds-of-a- mile path and boardwalk a further enhancement to the quality of life in Warsaw, Mayor Ernie Wiggins cut a red, white and blue ribbon preceding a Family Fun Walk sponsored by Kosciusko Community Hospital.

City planner Jeff Noffsinger, who conceived of a greenway trail system five years ago, called the Beyer Farm link a true community project.

"This is something that invites the public to enjoy nature in an urban environment," he said, "offering educational and recreational opportunities."

Starting at the entrance just north of the Warsaw Women's Center, across from the Health and Wellness building on Provident Drive, about 100 people took the 10-minute walk to the other entrance, just east of the Firemen's Building at the end of Arthur Street.

Noffsinger said $435,000 has been raised through grants and donations for the project's development.

A wooden boardwalk raises visitors above acres of wetlands bordering Pike Lake.

Lake City Greenway steering committee members are Noffsinger, Neal Carlson, Dr. Dean and Carol Lyn Jansen, Andy McCleary, John Elliott, Matt Sandy, Julie Bowers, Craig Allebach, Brent Wilcoxson, Eric Graves and Janelle Wilson.
