ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The father of a Warsaw man who died in March after jumping from a moving vehicle is in critical condition himself after a motorcycle accident in Michigan Sunday. John Belcher, 41, Warsaw, was taken to University of Michigan Hospital by helicopter after the motorcycle he was driving struck the driver’s side front tire of a Ford F-250 pickup Sunday at 1:08 p.m. at the intersection of M-60 and Reynolds Road in Spring Arbor Township. Belcher sustained severe head injuries when his head struck the front quarter panel of the truck, according to news outlet mlive.com He was initially taken to an area hospital before being flown to University of Michigan Hospital, where he is listed in critical condition. Belcher is suffering from bleeding to the brain as well as injuries to the right side of his body including his face, wrist and femur, according to his sister, Teresa Belcher, in a post on a Facebook support page late Sunday. She also said they won’t know if there's damage to his brain for 24 to 48 hours. Ken Moore, a friend of John Belcher’s who visited him in hospital, said this morning that he underwent surgery to stabilize the broken bones. “He shattered a lot of things on his right side,” Moore said. More tests are being conducted to learn the extent of the bleeding on his brain, but Moore said it appears the brain injuries may not be as extensive as first thought. Belcher was on the way to Hell, Mich., with his wife, Angie, and a friend when the accident occurred, said Moore. Witnesses said Belcher ran a red light before his motorcycle struck the truck, according to mlive.com He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident but alcohol was not a factor in the crash, according to a report from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department. John Belcher’s son, Jerry Belcher, died in a Fort Wayne hospital March 25 after he jumped from a truck John Belcher was driving on CR 800W near CR 850N early in the morning Jan. 18.
