Beaman Home Golf Scramble Supports Victims for 20 Years

Posted
The morning of June 4 dawned sunny and warm – the perfect weather for playing golf.

For 116 local golfers, it was also the perfect day to support the community’s domestic violence victims. Many of them have made the Beaman Home’s Annual Golf Scramble an early June tradition for nearly every year for 20 years.

After enjoying a picnic lunch, catered by Bib’s Backyard BBQ, the players hit the greens at South Shore Golf Club for fellowship and some friendly competition. Throughout the day, they tested their skills and tried their luck to not only place as a team, but also as an individual.

At the end of the day, the scores were close with the top three teams being within one stroke of one another.

1st place – 1st Source Bank Team #2; John Elliott, Brian Elliott, Dave Wolkins and Matt Wolkins.

2nd place – North Webster American Legion; Don Mort, Paul Beezley, Kerry Koontz and Bob Krevinghaus.

3rd place - Warsaw Bowl; Bart Loe, Chris Loe, Bruce Sawvel and Ted Wright.

In the individual competitions:

Long Putt Competition: Jeff Slater

Longest Drive: Men – Dick Allen; Women – Chris Loe

Closest to the Pin, Hole #5: Men – Ray Harroff; Women – Chris Loe

Closest to the Pin, Hole #7: Men – Bill Cox; Women – No one filled in the marker

Closest to the Pin, Hole #14: Unisex – Bob Krouse

Lakeside Chevrolet sponsored a hole-in-one competition, and offered a brand new 2013 Chevy Malibu to the winner. Unfortunately, no one was able to take the car home with them.

In total, Beaman Home’s 20th Annual Golf Scramble netted just more than $10,000 for its emergency shelter and outreach programs.
