Battery With Body Injury Alleged In Dec. IncidentAn area woman is facing battery charges after allegedly hitting another woman and causing her to go unconscious.

Rhonda Pearl Harrington, 36, of 1051 E. Marion St., Nappanee, was arrested and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 10:06 p.m. Dec. 2 for battery resulting in bodily injury. Her preliminary bond was set at $5,250 and she has since been released on that bond.

Court documents list her address as 13276 N. CR 150E, Milford, and the charges against her as battery while armed with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury, a level 5 felony, and battery resulting in moderate bodily injury, a level 6 felony.

On Dec. 2, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputy Travis Mickem responded to a battery complaint at a gas station. The location of the gas station was redacted in court documents.

He spoke with a witness who said she heard and saw two women – later identified as Harrington and the victim – arguing. When the witness was done pumping her gas, she looked up and saw Harrington hitting the victim as she laid unconscious on the ground.

Mickem talked with the victim who said she didn’t see who knocked her unconscious but it could have been Harrington.

Another witness told the deputy that she saw Harrington on top of the victim hitting her. When Harrington got up, the victim was not moving.

Another witness said he saw Harrington get up and walk away after she and the victim were on the ground wrestling.

Harrington told Mickem she hit the victim with a closed fist because the victim hit her on the back of the head.

The victim was taken by ambulance to Goshen Hospital to be treated for head injuries.

A no contact order was entered Dec. 12.

An initial hearing for Harrington is tentatively scheduled for 8:15 a.m. Dec. 20 in Kosciusko County Superior Court I.
