Battery charges filed after woman suffers broken noseA Warsaw man is facing battery charges after allegedly giving his girlfriend two black eyes and a fractured nose.

Joseph Emmitt Brushnefski, 33, of 504-A Ross Ave., Warsaw, was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 8:20 a.m. Feb. 19 for domestic battery with a preliminary bond of $6,000. He was released on his own recognizance, with an initial hearing set for 1 p.m. March 28 in Kosciusko County Superior Court III.

Court documents filed Saturday list the charges against him as domestic battery resulting in moderate bodily injury, a level 6 felony, and domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor.

On Feb. 19, Warsaw Police officer Jordan Roberts responded to a domestic dispute. The victim, who had two swollen black eyes and a swollen bloody nose, told him she and her boyfriend, Brushnefski, were arguing when he became angry and hit her on the face. She said a vehicle driving by the house backfired, possibly triggering Brushnefski’s post-traumatic stress disorder.

Brushnefski told Roberts he had no idea how the victim was injured.

Roberts spoke with the roommate of the victim and Brushnefski who said he didn’t see anything but could hear the victim and Brushnefski arguing “very loudly and aggressively.” He also said he could clearly hear Brushnefski hit the victim.

EMS was at the scene and treated the victim’s injuries. Their assessment was that she had a hematoma on her left eye and possibly a fractured nose, according to court documents.

A no contact order was entered on Tuesday.
