Kosciusko County Alcoholic Beverage Commission reviewed numerous permit renewals Thursday, hearing petitions from new establishments, businesses with expiring licenses and three incidents of gambling violations.
Bud's Bar, Milford; Lil' Anchor Bar, Syracuse; and the American Legion Post 253, North Webster, each came before the board in efforts to resolve gambling violations and have licenses renewed.
Lil' Anchor Bar paid a $500 penalty for its first gambling offense. Board policy states if a permit holder has three violations of gambling, the business will lose its alcohol license.
Both Bud's and American Legion Post 253 had two counts of gambling charges, with both matters being tabled until the ABC's June 1 meeting.
Attorney Mike Miner, who represented the American Legion, went before the ABC to help settle the violation charges. However, excise officer John Barchak recommended the matter be settled at a later date, after certain issues were investigated further.
Gambling machines were found inside the establishment over a two-month span last year, but the motherboards of the devices allegedly were removed, making them unusable. The Legion still received penalties, however, because penalties are assigned to a machine's presence inside of a business, whether it is operational or not.
Regarding renewal requests, the commission approved licenses for Gordy's Sub Pub and Kmart, both of Warsaw; and Huntington Street Bar and Grill and Hammer's Pub and Grub, both of Syracuse.
A new restaurant, Wings Etc., to be located near Walmart on Ind. 15N, also was approved for a three-way license.
