Warsaw Police and the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office continue to investigate the death of a child at his babysitter’s home on the city’s south side. At 1:39 p.m. Monday, medics and police were dispatched to the 900 block of South Union Street, Warsaw, after receiving a 911 call of an unresponsive two-year-old-boy. Payton Brettell, the 18 month-old-son of David and Nova Brettell, Warsaw, was transported to Kosciusko Community Hospital and later pronounced dead at 2:13 p.m. by Dr. Mansfield. An autopsy was performed this afternoon by Dr. McDonald at the Northeast Regional Forensic Center, Fort Wayne. The preliminary results found accidental death due to positional asphyxia. The final autopsy and lab results are pending. At this time, police believe the incident to be accidental and do not believe any foul play is involved, however, the case remains under investigation by the Warsaw Police Department, the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office, and Child Protective Services.
