Artist, educator and illustrator Michele Wood will be giving an artist talk Friday from 6:30 to 7 p.m. at the opening of her exhibition at Grace College Art Gallery in Mount Memorial Hall. Featured in the show are large illustrated paintings from the children's book “I Lay My Stitches Down.” The reception will continue from 7 to 9 p.m. The show runs through Dec. 12. With a career spanning over 30 years,, Wood is best known for depicting moments in African American history as well as changing consciousness of the African American experience, according to the event announcement. She is the recipient of over 30 awards and honors. The release of “I Lay My Stitches Down,” text by Cynthia Grady, won the 2013 Gold Nautilus award and was the 2012 recipient of the NYPL Children’s Book List and more.
