WINONA LAKE - Walkers will have the opportunity to raise funds for arthritis research.
The second annual Arthritis Foundation Walk is Oct. 6 in Winona Lake. Registration begins at 9 a.m., and the walk begins at 10 a.m in Winona Lake Park.
Biomet is the national sponsor for the walk.
Other sponsors include Jansen Orthopedic Clinic, Warsaw, Zimmer, Kosciusko Community Hospital, Grossnickle Family Foundation, Sasso Brothers and Mike and Rebecca Kubacki.
The walk will include a 1-mile and 3-mile walk along Winona Lake's Greenway Heritage Trail.
Dr. Dean Jansen, Jansen Orthopedic Clinic, Warsaw, is this year's walk chair.
"The purpose of the walk is to raise awareness of the impacts and treatments of arthritis and raise funds for arthritis research," Jansen said.
Beth Harsch, branch director for the Arthritis Foundation-Indiana Chapter, said one in three adults and 300,000 children have arthritis or chronic joint symptoms.
"Virtually everyone knows someone who is or who will be touched in some way by arthritis or a related disease," Harsch said.
"The arthritis walk is a true community event where teams of people from businesses, schools and other organizations come together to show support for friends and love ones who suffer from arthritis."
The goal this year is to raise $11,000. Walkers raised $10,000 during last year's walk. Approximately 150 people participated in last year's walk.
Proceeds from the walk will be used for arthritis research and go to funds in Northern Indiana for arthritis programs and research.
