Art A Common Tie For Local Family

Art A Common Tie For Local FamilyPIERCETON - A fourth generation of artists are lending a hand to a "new" old building.

The Old Depot on Market Street in Pierceton is a new restaurant utilizing space at the old train depot built in 1867. Matt and Gracie Anglin are helping put their family's mark on the new restaurant.

Using one-shot lettering enamel they had to get out of Grand Rapids, Mich., the Anglin duo has spent about a week putting detail into a train design.

As of Wednesday afternoon, they were preparing to add wheels and the track.

The two are the great-grandchildren of "Wop" Anglin, who started Anglin Signs.

The business was officially established in 1937, though he had done sign work before that.

The Anglin Signs building was originally on 450 N. Washington St., Warsaw, before relocating to property north of Warsaw.

On that property also came to be Vinegar Bend.

Vinegar Bend became a destination for companies to hold events and picnics throughout the 1970s and '80s.

Wop's son, KayeDonn, also ran Anglin Signs.

KayeDonn's son and Gracie's and Matt's father, Eric, said some of the Anglins' work can be seen at the old courtroom at the old county courthouse, the fire station in Warsaw, Rozella Ford and Polk and Sons.

The Old Depot opened its upstairs June 22 with a soft opening.

"All the Anglins are either artists or musicians or both," said The Old Depot owner, Tim May.

The Anglins have some lettering work to do as well before their work is complete, perhaps sometime next week.
