Tigers, Warriors Both Go 5-0 At Warsaw Invitational
Wrestling teams from Wawasee and Warsaw each finished with 5-0 records in Saturday’s War-saw Invitational, a season-opening tournament in the Tiger Den.
Warsaw won 48-24 over Rossville, 47-20 over Calumet, 52-27 over Elkhart Central, 54-30 over Illiana Christian and 48-22 over Elkhart Memorial.
Wawasee won 51-25 over Elkhart Central, 66-18 over Rossville, 60-18 over Memorial, 52-30 over Calumet and 63-18 over Illiana Christian.
Seven Warriors went unbeaten in the tournament; Hunter Miller (106 lbs.), Logan Stuckman (113), Dylan Tom (120), Jace Alexander (126), Jacob Wilkinson (132), Tim Shortt (145) and Austin Lajoice (195).
Six Tigers also went unbeaten for the day; Andrew Ross (126), Isaiah Owens (132), Brock Hogenson (138), Liam Nolin (145), Jacob Linky (160) and Brock Hueber (195). Jose Martinez (120) and Brandon Estepp (170) both went 4-1 for Warsaw.
Both teams will compete in Wawasee’s November Super Duals on Saturday in Syracuse.
Tiger GBB Drop A Pair In Duneland/NLC Shootout
MERRILLVILLE – Warsaw suffered its first two girls basketball losses Saturday, 55-43 to Class 4A No. 4 Crown Point and 48-44 to host Merrillville in the Duneland Conference/ Northern Lakes Conference Shootout Saturday.
In the Crown Point game, Brielle Harrison led the Tigers with 10 points, with Abby Sanner adding nine points off the bench and Kacilyn Krebs scoring eight points. Everyone who played had at least two rebounds, with Harrison and Audrey Grimm gathering four boards each.
Harrison again paced the Tigers in the Merrillville game with 15 points. Kaylee Patton and Krebs had nine points each, and Sanner had seven.
Northridge was the other NLC team in the shootout. The Raiders fell 53-52 in overtime to Merrillville and 68-43 to Crown Point. Northridge is off to an 0-5 start to its season.
Warsaw (4-2) hosts 4A No. 5 Penn at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Lady Squires Defeated
NORTH MANCHESTER – Kiera Hatfield had 10 points and Ainsley West eight points for Manchester in its 32-27 loss to visiting Winamac in a non-conference girls basketball game Saturday.
The Lady Squires also fell in the junior varsity contest 43-26 to Winamac. Keilan Creager had eight points in the game.
Manchester (1-6) hosts Oak Hill at 6 p.m. Saturday.
Lady Cougars Fall
WINONA LAKE – Natalie Norris and Tori Calizo had eight points each for Lakeland Christian in its 36-29 loss to visiting Elkhart Christian in a girls basketball game Saturday.
Jessi Calizo had five points and five rebounds for the Cougars. Finley Hobbs and Cara McCrum had three points each, and Jordan Gross had two points.
Lakeland Christian (1-5) plays at North Miami at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
