Area Roundup: Girls Hoops Sectional Pairings Announced

The Indiana High School Athletic Association announced sectional pairings on Sunday for the 44th annual girls basketball state tournament.
The tourney begins Jan. 29 and will conclude Feb. 23 with the state finals at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
A total of 398 teams will compete in this year’s tournament.
Among teams in the Times-Union coverage area, Manchester will host a 2A sectional, and Whitko and Tippecanoe Valley drew first-round byes in their respective sectional.
In Class 4A Sectional 4 at Northridge High School, the hosts open play Jan. 29 against Plymouth.
Warsaw and Elkhart Memorial will meet in the first game on Jan. 30, followed by Elkhart Central and Goshen.
Concord will play the Northridge/Plymouth winner in the first semifinal, followed by the winners from Jan. 30.
West Noble will host Class 3A Sectional 21, and action begins on Tuesday next week with Wawasee and Lakeland, followed by West Noble playing Fairfield.
Tippecanoe Valley will meet either Wawasee or Lakeland in the first semifinal, followed by NorthWood playing either West Noble or Fairfield.
In 2A Sectional 35 at Central Noble, the host school and defending state champion Lady Cougars open play against Westview, followed by Bremen playing LaVille.
Whitko drew a bye and will play either Central Noble or Westview in the first semifinal, followed by Prairie Heights against either Bremen or LaVille.
At Manchester, Oak Hill and North Miami will tip off 2A Sectional 37.
The host Lady Squires will play Rochester in the first round.
In the first semifinal game, Wabash will play the Oak Hill/North Miami winner, while Lewis Cass will play either Manchester or Rochester.
The Triton Lady Trojans will open 1A Sectional 51 action at Oregon-Davis with a first-round game against South Central on Jan. 29.
The following night, LaCrosse will player Culver Community, followed by Argos and the host school.
South Bend Career Academy will play in the first semifinal against the Triton/South Central winner.
In 1A Sectional 52 at Fremont, Lakeland Christian will open with the hosts, while Blackhawk Christian and Lakewood Park Christian will play the next tnight, followed by Hamilton and Bethany Christian.
The first semifinal game features Elkhart Christian against the LCA/Fremont winner.
Moore Wins TRC Championship For Squires
BUNKER HILL – Four Manchester wrestlers advanced to the finals of the Three Rivers Conference Tournament Friday at Maconaquah High School, leading the Squires to a second-place finish among the 10 teams.
The tournament was scheduled for Saturday, but moved up because of the predicted winter storm.
Delton Moore tallied three pins and scored 26 points toward Manchester’s team total en route to his championship in the 170-pound weight class.
With his TRC title, Moore is now 28-3 this season.
Dylan Stroud (126 pounds), Trevor Dill (220) and Bryce Kamphues (285) all finished second for the Squires.
Wabash had four individual champions and won the team title with 204.5 points.
The Squires were runner-up in the team standings with 195 points, followed by Maconaquah (180), Rochester (180), Peru (160), Tippecanoe Valley (144.5), North Miami (103), Northfield (94), Whitko (59) and Southwood (58).
Whitko Too Much For TRC?Foe Northfield
SOUTH WHITLEY – Three players scored in double figures, and Whitko’s varsity boys basketball team extend its win streak to four with a 79-44 victory over Three Rivers Conference opponent Northfield.
Drake Lewis tallied 20 points, seven rebounds, four steals and three assists for the Wildcats, while Brett Sickafoose finished with 19 points, seven boards, four assists and a pair of steals, and Spencer Sroufe had a monster game of 16 points, 20 rebounds, five assists, three blocks and two steals.
Clayton Ebbinghouse and Micah Cokl scored nine points and grabbed four rebounds each in the win.
Ebbinghouse added five assists and three steals to his statline.
Whitko, now 6-7 overall and 3-2 in the TRC, led 25-15 after one quarter of play, 40-26 at halftime and 61-38 headed into the final frame.
The Wildcats are in action again when they travel to Peru.
Warsaw Freshmen Extend Win Streak To 11
DUNLAP – All 14 players saw action and 10 scored as the Warsaw freshman boys basketball team beat Northern Lakes Conference rival Concord 44-24 Thursday.
Judah Simfukwe scored 14 points in the win, while Sami Smith scored six points and Jack Yeager and Kyle Dawson four each.
The Tigers have won 11 straight games and are now 13-1 overall and 5-0 in the NLC.
