Lady Vikings Roll To Easy Win Over Culver Academies
CULVER – Junior Hayley Backus scored 17 points, classmate Sidney Wagner had 15 points and Kaydence Mellott had 13 to lead Tippecanoe Valley to a 52-18 win at Culver Academies in a non-conference girls basketball game Tuesday night.
Valley overcame a slow start that saw the Eagles lead 7-5 after the first quarter. The Vikings outscored Culver Academies 19-4 in the second period and never looked back.
Emma Craig scored the remaining seven points for the visiting Vikings.
The Valley junior varsity won 61-16, moving their season record to 2-0. Molly Moriarty had 17 points and Corinna Stiles 13 in the winning effort.
Valley (2-0) will host Warsaw Saturday night. The game was originally scheduled for Friday and was moved when the Tiger football team won its sectional, advancing to regional play Friday night.
Lady Squires Roll
WALTON – Manchester raced to a 17-0 lead after the first quarter, and rolled to a 56-26 non-conference win over host Lewis Cass in girls basketball action Tuesday.
Mackenzie Day had 12 points, Beletu Stout 11 and Ranissa Shambarger eight points for the Lady Squires. Makenzy Meyer had seven points in the win.
The junior varsity content was won by Manchester 30-17 over Lewis Cass. Keilan Creager and Ainsley West had nine points each in the winning cause.
Manchester (1-1) plays at Warsaw tonight.
Area Games Postponed
Two area non-conference girls basketball games were called off from Tuesday night due to weather.
Wawasee’s game at Fairfield will be made up Nov. 26 as part of a doubleheader; the boys season opener for both teams will also be played that night.
Junior varsity games will be held in Fairfield’s auxiliary gym, with the boys playing at 6 p.m. and the girls at 7:30. Varsity girls will play at 6 p.m. in the main gym, with the boys following about 7:30 p.m.
Whitko’s game at Central Noble in Albion was postponed, but no make-up date has been announced.
