Applications For New Veteran Banners Open In Syracuse

Posted

SYRACUSE - The town of Syracuse is accepting applications for new veteran banners.
The applications opened Sept. 2 and will be accepted until Dec. 31. Syracuse Town Manager David Wilkinson said they are keeping the current veteran banners they have that are still in good shape but they have room for more.
“We have about 100 poles available to hang them on,” he said.
The cost to have a veteran’s name and photo memorialized on a banner is $150. This amount covers the initial cost to have the banner made plus maintenance for five years.
“If they wear out or are damaged within five years, we’ll replace them at no cost. After five years they’ll need to purchase a new banner,” Wilkinson said.
Applications are being accepted through Dec. 31, which will allow time to have the banners manufactured so they’ll be ready to be installed before Memorial Day 2026.
Wilkinson said they display the banners for about a week before Memorial Day, then take them down and put them back up for Veterans Day in November.
When asked why the town wanted to have veteran’s banners, he responded, “We obviously want to support our veterans’ community and celebrate and commemorate our veterans from the Syracuse area.”
Banners can be paid for at the clerk-treasurer’s office, 310 N. Huntington St., by cash or checks made out to the town of Syracuse. Unfortunately, they cannot accept debit or credit cards.
Applications for the veteran banners are available at the clerk’s office or online at the town of Syracuse website under the community tab, veteran’s banners at https://cms6.revize.com/revize/syracusein/community/index.php.
You’ll be asked to supply the veteran’s name, branch of service, dates of service and a photo — digital preferred.
