Animal Welfare League Sets 'Fur Ball' for Nov. 5

The Animal Welfare League is busy preparing for its fifth annual “Fur Ball” Nov. 5 at 6:30 p.m.

This event is AWL’s biggest fundraiser of the year and will be held at the Warsaw Toyota dealership on Ind. 15N.

Carol Haldewang, chairman of the event, has come up with some items that can be used for Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries or graduation.

“You name it,” she said, “we have something perfect for you.”

From original paintings to customer jewelry, overnight stays at a luxury Chicago hotel, a “behind the scenes tour,” beautiful handcrafted longboards for teens, sporting events, theater tickets, golf outings and hand-autographed Nancy Lopez bag and putter, to a helicopter ride with Flyin’ Brian, the silent auction promises to be exciting and fun, according to organizers.

The live auction, hosted by Joe Salazar, will feature an amazing playhouse built by Martin Brothers Contracting and Builder’s Mart.

Next on the auction block will be a chance to get your friends together for an experience with Dane and Mary Louise Miller as Dane cooks you dinner for six at his home.

“This is just the tip of the iceberg on all the items we have for this Fur Ball, but best of all, the funds we take in for this event help to support our efforts at the Animal Welfare League in providing love and shelter for homeless animals,” Haldewang said. “Donations provide a great deal of the support for the needs and operation of the largest shelter in a four county area.”

One of this reasons this shelter is large is due to their open door policy. Visitors are welcome to come and find out more.

Entertainment for the evening will be provided by The Michele Payton soft jazz band. There will be h’ors d’oeuvres and a cash bar at the casual chic affair. The cost is only $30 per person. Reservations can be made immediately by calling 574-267-3008.
