Animal Welfare League Receives New VanAnimal Welfare League of Kosciusko County received a new van recently that will be used to deliver animals to events.
"It isn't even Christmas yet, but an anonymous benefactor gave us an inspiring gift," said Darla McCammon, AWL executive director.
The gift is a brand new animal transport van. Rice Ford delivered the vehicle to Mavron, a Warsaw company with a reputation for providing specialty transport vans.
The van will be used to safely deliver animals to special events, help advertise the shelter at those events, transport animals for veterinarian services and pick up and deliver materials needed in the care of the animals at Animal Welfare League, 3489 E. CR 100S.
Mavron worked with AWL to incorporate special cages with extreme flexible dividers, easy cleaning capabilities including drainage within each cage, air handling including heat and air conditioning for the comfort of the animals, and safety items such as a strobe light on top.
"They are going to use our van as a prototype for other shelters around the country," said Carol Haldewang, board president. "This is the first one of its kind developed by Mavron. We were honored and thankful for the generosity of Mavron in retrofitting this vehicle for our needs at an extremely reduced cost."
The bright red and blue design with black paw print graphics was a donation from "Off The Wall Expressions", a local company from Kosciusko and Whitley counties.
"They did a wonderful job of making the graphics fit the vehicle and we are very appreciative of this generous donation to our Animal Welfare League," Haldewang said.
