Anglin Pleads Guilty In Crash That Killed North Webster Teen

Posted

Dexter Lee Anglin, 18, pleaded guilty in Kosciusko Superior Court 1 today to a charge of reckless homicide.

Reckless homicide is a Class C felony and is punishable by up to eight years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Anglin, the teenage driver in the car crash that killed Tara Likens, 19, North Webster, on May 26, pleaded today without a plea agreement.

By his guilty plea, Anglin forfeited his rights to a trial and to remain silent, among others. He retained the right to an attorney.

Sentencing will be Dec. 11, following a presentence investigation report. Anglin's attorney, Bradley Voelz, forfeited the right to be sentenced within 30 days of the plea to prepare a separate presentence report.

Before his plea was accepted, Anglin answered prosecution questions proving his guilt. He admitted to special Judge Joseph Sutton and prosecuting attorney Dan Hampton that he was indeed the driver of the Ford Probe on May 26. He also said he was driving at speeds between 80 and 100 miles per hour on CR 100N, near Warsaw, immediately before the crash.

The crash occurred when the fast-moving car hit a bump in the road and Anglin lost control. He and five passengers were ejected from the car. Likens was airlifted to Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, and died May 27 from injuries suffered in the accident.
