WINONA LAKE - Hundreds of local residents will join Saturday to participate in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
September is World Alzheimer’s Month.
Walk to End Alzheimer's participants will be able to learn more about Alzheimer's disease, advocacy opportunities, clinical trial enrollment, and support programs and services.
The Alzheimer’s Association walk is Saturday at 9 a.m. with registration at 10 a.m. at Winona Lake Senior Center. The 1.8-mile walk is on Winona Lake’s Heritage Trail.
There is no fee to register for the walk, but if participants raise a minimum of $100 they receive an event t-shirt.
All funds raised go toward Alzheimer's care, support and research.
There are currently 14 teams and more than 300 people registered to participate in the event, according to Betsy Yeo, Alzheimer’s Association director of special events.
To start or join a team, visit alz.org/walk or call 800-272-3900.
“We walk to help our grandparents, parents, spouses, partners, brothers, sisters and friends living with the disease,” Yeo said.
“We also walk to support millions of caregivers emotionally and financially, and to speak up on behalf of all those affected.”
Greater Indiana Chapter Funds from the walk will contribute to more than $42.2 million raised by participants nationwide for care, support and research efforts for those impacted by Alzheimer's, as well as provide local support and programs in Indiana.
Having awarded more than $265 million to nearly 1,800 research projects, the Alzheimer's Association is the largest private funder of Alzheimer’s research.
