Altrusa International of Warsaw has been serving Warsaw and surrounding communities since 1973, providing countless hours of hands-on volunteering as well as financial support.
During a meeting in April, the club approved multiple local agencies to support financially, according to a news release from the club.
Beaman Home was one of the organizations chosen. In 1983, led by Altrusan Mary Ann Cox, the Beaman Home was founded as a refuge for women and children of domestic violence. The original location was a small home on Detroit Street. This home housed up to 13 residents.
In 2011, the Beaman Board, led by Altrusan Beth Huffer, recognized the need for a new facility. In 2012, property was purchased on Parker Street.
Altrusan Sue Creighton and then Beaman Home Executive Director Tracie Hodsen led a $2 million fund drive. Funds were raised over four years as the facility was completed in phases. The new facility was dedicated in August 2016.
Altrusa continues to support the Beaman Home through Bingo for Beaman every October. In 2025, the sold-out event garnered over $14,000 to support various programs offered to the clients and children.
A $500 check was presented to Fellowship Missions to support the work they do to enhance the lives of the unhoused in the community. Fellowship Missions is committed to restoring hope, rebuilding lives and strengthening the community through Christ-centered services. An emergency shelter, it offers a safe refuge for individuals and families in crisis providing a warm, welcoming environment, nutritious daily meals, access to hygiene facilities, clean clothing and individualized case management for immediate and long-term needs, stated the release.
Over the years, Altrusa has provided bed linens, paper products and personal hygiene items in addition to financial support.
Other organization receiving financial assistance from Altrusa - Warsaw, include Operation Read, $500; Joe’s Kids, $500; Strengthening Families, $500; Camp HERO, $250; and Edgewood Caring Closet, $200.
Community support of their various fundraisers makes it possible for Altrusa to aid these organizations, stated the release.
