Alpha Company to Celebrate Night Fire Ball

Looking for a way to support veterans?

Anyone who visits the American Table restaurant Wednesday will have 10 percent of their bill donated to the Night Fire Ball in Fort Wayne.

The ball is designed to allow veterans from the 1st Battalion of the 293d Infantry Regiment to come together, celebrate their infantry’s history and blow off some steam.

Part of the infantry is Alpha Company out of Warsaw.

Sgt. 1st Class Jason Thoman, readiness non-commissioned officer at the Warsaw Armory, said upward of 70 percent of Alpha Company has been deployed.

To cut down the cost of the ball for soldiers, Thoman has reached out to different businesses.

American Table will donate 10 percent of its revenue Wednesday. Also through Nov. 23, a Kevlar helmet will be at the front counter of the restaurant where patrons can donate cash or checks.

The ball is set for Dec. 3 at the Fort Wayne Coliseum.

“We go through all the battles (in our history) from the War of 1812 to present,” said Thoman. “It’s also a chance to meet each other’s spouses and blow off some steam.”

Thoman said those serving through Alpha Company must always be prepared.

It also takes a commitment from the soldiers’ families and employers.

“We’ve had a lot of support from employers, and as a community we’ve had a ton of support when we’ve been deployed,” said Thoman.

And there are chances to do even more.

American Table is at 3575 Lake City Highway in Warsaw.
