Allen Sworn In As New Warsaw Police Officer

Warsaw Board of Public Works and Safety Friday swore in a new Warsaw Police Department officer.
Mayor Joe Thallemer swore in Gordon Allen III, who previously worked at New Haven Police Department for eight years.
“We’re very glad you’re here,” Thallemer said.
The board also approved:
• A $2,056.50 contract with A & Z Engineering for Market Street improvements.
• A $3,289 contract and a $2,999 contract with Quality Home Decorating for exterior painting of the Nye Youth Cabin.
• A $5,345 contract with TruGreen Tree and Shrub Care Service at Central Park, Kiddieland and McKinley Park for 2015.
• Eight 2015 non-profit contracts, including: Animal Welfare League, $19,000; City-County Athletic Complex, $31,000; Kosciusko Area Bus Service, $18,500; Warsaw Community Development Corp., $12,600; Warsaw Housing Authority, $30,000; Housing Opportunities of Warsaw, $25,000; and Center For Lakes and Streams At Grace College, $5,000.
• An accounting services agreement for the general obligation bonds for 2014 with HJ Umbaugh and Associates.
• Decreasing life insurance rates by 2 cents per $1,000 and .15 cents per $1,000 for city employees. The overall increase for the police department per month is $295 and overall increase for the fire department is $200 per month. There is an increase for accidental death and dismemberment insurance increasing by .15 cents per $1,000.
• A $3,823 contract with Niblock Excavating to alleviate alley drainage problems for the stormwater utility in the alley between Indiana and Buffalo streets.
The board also approved salaries for Tanner Hobbs, Warsaw Wastewater Treatment Utility facility maintenance technician at $15.53 bi-weekly; Raymond Zimmerman, street equipment operator at $15.25 bi-weekly; James Price, street equipment operator at $15.50; Chelsea Blackford, wastewater utility facility administrative assistant, at $10 an hour; and Robert Gonzalez, street refuse driver, at $16.27 an hour.
Thallemer informed the council that Tigers Retreat repaving roadwork will be completed in the spring.
